Hurricane Sandy hit the Northeast for three days in 2012 and when it was done, Port Washington, like so many other coastal towns was left to discover the damage that this unprecedented storm had brought.
One of the first calls we received was from the Chabad of Port Washington. Despite all their pre-storm efforts they could not stop the flood waters when they came. The temple, gym, meeting areas, classrooms, library, office space and residence were all flooded with a combination of sea, street and rain water.

Their World Restored
A flood is always devastating and not one person in the tri-state area was unaffected by Sandy. In times of hardship many turn to their places of worship for comfort but when those institutions have to close their doors the community feels the impact of the loss even more.
After three weeks of round the clock work, Maxons had the Chabad of Port Washington ready to reopen its doors to the community.
